The Award in First Aid at Work at SCQF level 6 will develop knowledge and skills required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations. This is a regulated qualification, which is recognised nationally. The award comprises two units at SCQF level 6 covering Emergency First Aid at Work and Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace.
This qualification covers the following areas:
Unit 1 (Emergency First Aid at Work):
- Roles and responsibilities of the first-aider
- Assessing an incident
- Providing first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- Managing choking situations
- Handling external bleeding
- Responding to shock
- Dealing with minor injuries
Unit 2 (Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace):
- Conducting a secondary survey
- Treating suspected injuries to bones, muscles, and joints
- Managing suspected head and spinal injuries
- Dealing with chest injuries
- Responding to burns and scalds
- Treating eye injuries
- Managing sudden poisoning incidents
- Responding to anaphylaxis
- Recognising and managing suspected major illnesses
